Ethicon

Ethicon's story starts with Johnson & Johnson, which in 1887 produced the world's first mass-produced sterile surgical sutures. J&J later bought a Scottish suture maker and formed Ethicon as a separate company in the late 1940s. In 1956 Ethicon became the first to sterilise its sutures by radiation.

Ethicon is best known for sutures such as Ethilon nylon, Vicryl and Monocryl, as well as wound closure, stapling, energy and haemostasis products.

Ethicon is now part of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, the medical technology group of Johnson & Johnson.
