Smith & Nephew traces its history to 1856, when the pharmacist Thomas James Smith opened a small shop in Hull, England, initially specialising in cod liver oil. In 1896 his nephew Horatio Smith joined him, forming T.J. Smith & Nephew.
It has grown into a global medical technology company with businesses in wound care, orthopaedics and sports medicine.
