Baxter

Baxter was founded in 1931 in the United States as a maker and distributor of intravenous (IV) solutions, and grew into one of the best-known names in medical products. Its Viaflex plastic IV bag, developed from a plastic blood container introduced in 1948, allowed solutions to be given without opening the system to contamination.

The company is also known for dialysis, including the first commercial kidney dialysis system and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, and for blood products. In 2021 it acquired Hillrom, bringing brands such as Welch Allyn into the Baxter group.
